As some of you may know, I have a side gig where I buy and resell items. While the majority of them are vintage items, I will resell anything that is profitable. Poker is many ways is like picking and many tips from picking can apply to poker. Here are a few.

Norman and Lon Like 430x285
ESPN began airing their annual coverage of the World Series of Poker on Tuesday. This year, fans will only be treated to two tournaments, the $1 Million Big One for ONE DROP and the 2014 WSOP Main Event. And yet again I will probably not watch unless it has something to do with my job. (Which probably means I will watch in November.

Losing Client
This post is part informative and part brag post. A couple of weeks ago, I lost one of my largest clients and have been in the process of rebuilding mode. Most people in this situation would have stressed out, but coming from an IT background, I am used to constant change in the job market and I had a plan. Here's a few tips for success that have worked for me in the past when I have had to go into "rebuilding mode.

Stud 8 Players Ignoring Too Many Obvious Spots

Stud 8 Wheel
The more I cover poker, the more I realize that the average competency in certain mixed games seems to be steadily dropping. The game where I am seeing the most decay seems to be Stud 8. It really stuck out like a sore thumb this summer while watching some of the coverage of the WSOP but I also have been noticing this trend for a while in the online arena. Players have gotten too loose with their Stud 8 play and seem to practically ignore certain obvious spots.

The New Face for "The Agony of Defeat"

12 July 2014 , By: compncards
Imagine you're on the bubble of the World Series of Poker Main Event with a stack of about 220,000 and you pick up pocket queens. You could sit back and try and cruise into the money, but you're here to win dammit. Time to get some chips. An opponent raises and you call along.

Bottom Dealing 430x286
Just watched a video of an interview with Matt Salsberg regarding an incident that went down at the Golden Nugget Summer Series Main Event. According to Salsberg, one of the dealers started base dealing and he claimed that he saw this happen in a couple of spots. He called the floor and the dealer was subsequently taken out of the event. Base dealing.

Phil Wins 10th 430x286
Prior to the beginning of the 2014 World Seires of Poker, one of my predictions was that Phil Ivey would win his 10th career bracelet this summer and Daniel would not win a bracelet. Phil Ivey won his 10th career bracelet late last night in the $1,500 Eight-Game Mix. Here's a little tribute video I found on the internet to mark the occasion.

Congratulations to future the 2014 Big One for ONE DROP champion. On paper, you will take home $20 million in prize. How much will that champion take home in reality? Good question. Greg Merson recently spoke on the realities of many pros playing in the ONE DROP event.
