Do We Want the Realism or the Fantasy of Rounders?
Why does every poker movie that comes out have to be
compared to Rounders?
I get the fact that Rounders is considered by many to be
"The Movie" when it comes to poker because of the realistic
portrayal. But this notion that every movie that fails to live up to
the "Rounders Standard" is bad eludes me. The problem with many of the movies that have been made in
recent years is that they try and cash in on poker's
popularity without showing how the game is really played. The two movies, in my opinion, that came the closest to
showing realistic poker portrayals were both mockumentaries.

Thanksgiving Day Thoughts
Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States and millions
of Americans will gather to eat turkey, watch football and
spend time with friends and family. Most sites at this point would give quotes or clips from
poker pros and what they are thankful for this season but
instead I will give you a thought to take throughout the
year. Thanksgiving should not something confined to a single
holiday. It is something that should be practiced throughout
the year.

Poker Less of a Sport Than Playing Video Games According to Poll
So the argument is still raging over whether poker is a
sport. Well, sort of. Deadspin posted an article last week posting the results of
a poll comparing whether certain activities were a sport. Not surprisingly, poker placed dead last with 11% of
participants claiming it was not a sport.

Amaya Buys PokerStars But Slow Your Roll on US Legalization
Amaya purchased PokerStars this week for over $4 billion. I
didn't see that one coming. Amaya has made themselves the
most powerful online gambling company in the world with the
move. Some would make you think that the deal will result in
nationwide online poker legalization in short order.

I Voted Against Poker
Tuesday was election day in the United States. If you were
following twitter or listening to different poker
personalities, they would have told you to vote for
candidates that support poker. I am one of the few players
that did not got with that form of thinking and actually
voted for the Republican candidate in my district. The Poker
Players Alliance actually supported the incumbent, but this
is one time I could not vote for poker.

Should Poker Be Policed Like Other Sports?
Annie Duke has taken the offensive in her feud with Daniel
Negreanu. On her blog, she has written an open letter to
PokerStars about their apparent refusal to separate
themselves from Daniel's comments. Before you read any further, go read Annie's blog on the
matter. I do like how she states the blatantly obvious early on:
" It is no secret that Daniel and I donât like each
other.

Online Poker is Like Picking Up Hookers
I have a certain hooker friend that I talk to infrequently. Hookers and poker for some go hand in hand. As such, here
are some reasons that picking up hookers is like playing
online poker:
1. You never really know what to expect going in.
