Friday, Jan 16, 2009 It's 10 percent luck, 20 percent skill

Now it's official, it's ten percent luck and twenty percent skill. But, then, what about the rest of the percentages?

The discussion about skill and luck in poker never seems to end. How much is skill, how can you tell, how long do you have to wait for skill to prevail, and so on.

But the answer is easy to find. If you could just step back from your logic and your math for one second, and turn your eyes to - music. Or, your ear, then.

If you listen to the words of Mike Shinoda, vocalist in Linkin Park and the man behind rap project Fort Minor, it will all be explained:

"It's like this y'all:
Ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain"

How could you argue with this? It pretty much wraps up what poker is, doesn't it?

Of course, for Phil Hellmuth the correct ingredients of poker would definitely be:

"Twenty percent skill
Eighty percent fear"
