Thursday, Apr 23, 2009 Scotty's WPT Dream Still Alive
The Prince of Poker - Scotty Nguyen - has one big goal this year - to win the WPT Championship at the Bellagio. With 24 players left in the tournament, Scotty is in sixth place.
There is a lot of talk about Scotty's drinking and bad behavior these days, but let's not forget what a great poker player he is. He has proved his outstanding skills yet again at the WPT championship, a tournament he is desperate to win.
Scotty at the much talked about 50K HORSE final table in WSOP 2009
"My next dream is the 25K at the Bellagio. That's my next goal. I haven't won that, I haven't even come close to lay a hand on that yet. Next year, baby, 25K, that's my goal," Scotty said when PokerJunkie talked to him after his famous WSOP $50k H.O.R.S.E. win last year.
"I want to win all the big tournaments. I want to be the first man to achieve that. I want people to say that Scotty is the best poker player."
He has a great chance of making that dream come true. After day 4 of the tournament, Scotty Nguyen is in sixth place with $1,823,000 in chips. Along the way he knocked out none other than Phil Ivey with A-9 against A-K. Two nines on the board pushed Scotty close to the top.
Some really tough opponents are standing in Scotty's way, however, including Freddy Deeb, Ross Boatman, Jeff Madsen, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Shannon Shorr, Eric Liu and Jennifer Harman. Eugene Katchalov is the chip leader with $4,294,000.
Day 5 of the prestigious event starts at 12 pm. PT today.
