Full Review of William Hill Poker

Summary of William Hill Poker

UK-based William Hill Poker joined the iPoker network in the beginning of 2009. On iPoker – the third biggest poker venue in the world – dim-witted opponents and good games are available 24/7, a definite plus when you’re looking for your next online poker room.

Will Hill is one of the classic sports betting operators in the UK – its offline business has been running like a well-oiled roulette wheel since 1943. Age is a sign of trust in this business, so in other words your funds are as safe with Will Hill as with any bank.

As is often the case, the association with other forms of gambling and sports betting opens the gates to a flood of merry luck-seekers (i.e., useless poker players) who are just sitting around waiting to throw money at you.

The fact that the poker room supports multiple currencies is a great thing for the poker room, as it gets a chance to fleece you. At the USD tables, the rake rate is in line with the industry standard, but it’s important to note that the GBP and Euro tables use the same structure, meaning you’ll pay more rake. Sticking with the dollar tables is therefore highly recommended, and don’t worry – there are plenty of those, too.

The graphics are tidy and effective. There are some (thankfully optional) avatars to choose from. None of them improves on the overall impression IMO.

Now that the largest sites have gone independent, iPoker is the world’s largest poker network – ahead of OnGame but behind three huge independent sites. Average traffic is around 4,000 players, and peak traffic almost doubles that number. Peaks tend to coincide with European evening time.

Promotions and Bonus Information

Sign up bonus: 200% up to $2000
Bonus Code: PJ600

A lot of things can be said about the William Hill promotion scheme, and it can be summed up in one word: good value. Once you’ve collected the sign-up bonus, you should keep an eye open for recurring promotions.

Some are really high-valued, like four $1,000 freerolls for new depositors or the $50,000 MTT leaderboard. Others are more ordinary, like smaller freerolls, cash back openings and purchasing gear in the William Hill loyalty shop. William Hill points are awarded for every raked hand and every real-money tournament that you play.

Jackpot Sit-and-Go tournaments are not something I would file under promotions, but they are a nice feature and really popular. You pay a larger fee than in normal tournaments, which is put towards a jackpot. To win the jackpot you need to win a certain amount of tournaments in a row. The "Dirty Dozen" Jackpot Sit-and-Go for example, costs $2+$0.40 to enter, and four consecutive wins are awarded with $2,000.

Note: William Hill offers a bad beat jackpot, but it’s not automatic. If you lose with quads, you need to shed your tears in an email to the customer support. Then they might transfer the cash to your account – if it was really a bad beat and not your usual whining.

Software & Graphics

The PlayTech servers that William Hill and the iPoker network run on are no piece of junk that you could clap together with a spike and a rubber band. Games run fast and smoothly and big multiplayer tournaments are no exception.

The software support for statistics and player notes is not perfect but adequate and the stats can be imported into Poker Tracker, Poker Office and other tools. Taking notes is as easy as it should be, and you can check the latest hand in a graphical display at the table. The William Hill Poker lobby shows flop percentage, average pot size and hands per hour together with seated players’ average stack.

Graphics are in line with the best. The commonly accepted GUI standards have been applied.

Tables can be resized freely. You can also show them in full screen mode, which is comfortable sometimes, like if you’re on a small laptop and want a really tidy environment.

Game Variety

William Hill offers a decent range of poker games. Beside the all-pervading Texas Holdem there’s Omaha, both high (Pot Limit) and high/low, as well as seven card stud and five card stud.

Cash games, MTT and S&G are available, of course, and most tourneys are run in NL holdem, but not exclusively.

Stakes range from micro stakes to really high stakes, like €300/€600 at the no-limit and pot-limit tables.
