Question:
If there is a flush on the board, can an off-suit card in the pocket serve as a kicker?
/Oscar Vazquez, Fresno, CA
Answer:
Hi Oscar
No. According to the poker rules, players can only use five cards to build their poker hand. Since a flush is made up of five cards, there's no room for any off-suit cards to influence it.
On the contrary, if there's a flush on the board, a card of the same suit in a players hand can give him or her a higher flush.

Hi sr
Lol, that person should not be trusted. Of course your ace kicker is good.
Even though, I have no idea what game you're playing if you have three hole cards?

Got into an argument with this flush hand. I had a A,7,6 of diamond while my opponent had 10,5,3 of diamond. The board had 9 and 2 of diamond. My opponent claimed since there were no picture card on the board A did not come into play and his 10 was the highest and thus he won the flush hand. Does this make any sense. Is he right. Thanks

Hi,
just had flush vs flush hand I don't understand.
I had 10s, Ad
Opponent had 9s,8s
Board(for sure there was Js 3 other spades lower than 10,9,8 - lets say it was): Ac Js 2s 6s 7s
So my hand was: spades flush of J 10 6 7 2
Oppoonents was: spades flush of J 9 8 6 7
I stared at it until window closed, to make sure I didnt overlook something and I'm pretty sure I did not...

Hi clampitt
It's a split. Since the 2s doesn't improve the players hand, it doesn't count.
Carry on!

who wins if say there is a spade flush on the board player 1 is playing the board player 2 is also playing the flush on the board but also has the 2 of spades in his hand, does the 2 play or is it a split?

PS Strictly speaking I think it's wrong to talk about kickers in this case. It's simply two different flushes. A kicker is a side-card, it's not included in the "valuable configuration" as such (pair, two pair, trips, etc.)

Aaron, yes the fifth card would act as a kicker here. The 1st player has Ac-Kc-Qc-Jc-4c and the 2nd player Ac-Kc-Qc-Jc-2c, which is a lower flush.

What is the winning hand in this following Texas Hold-em scenario? The 1st player is dealt - King of spades - 4 of clubs, 2nd player is dealt Ace of spades - 2 of clubs. The flop is Ace of clubs, King of clubs, Queen of clubs, Turn is Jack of clubs and river is 3 of diamonds.Would the 1st player use the 5th card as a kicker? Or would it be a split pot as both players would have an Ace high flush with a king kicker. Thanks, Aaron.

Okay, Bob: 1st player has Js-9s-7s-6s-2s. The 2nd player has Js-7s-6s-4s-2s. Player 1 wins because his flush is higher.

Hello~~ Please tell me the winning hand in the following Texas Hold'em Poker. 1st player dealt~9 spade,4 diamond. 2nd player dealt~ace club,4 spade. The flop~Jack spade,6 spade, 7 spade, the turn~8 heart, the river~ 2 spade. Thanks for the help. BOB

Exactly, that's how it's done. The player with the queen would have KQT86 against the other's KT865.
If someone had a queen of hearts in the hand, this would not be any good, it would be a split pot.

if theres a flush on the table and no one has a higher card that whats on the table do u use the next highest card someone has or split the pot? for example king, 10,8,6,5 of clubs on the table would someone with a queen of clubs in the hand win over someone without?
