Jeff Lisandro won his second WSOP bracelet on Monday. For many of you that watch poker on TV, you may remember Lisandro from the 2006 World Series of Poker. Prahlad Friedman accused Lisandro of stealing another player’s ante before a hand and eventually the argument got very heated and almost came to blows. ESPN heavily edits many poker tournaments and I had a chance to talk to Jeff in 2007 during a Stud 8 tournament at the WSOP.

Winning a coveted WSOP bracelet isn’t for everyone. But there’s another kind of WSOP bracelet too. It’s a little less coveted but also a little easier to get at: The plastic bracelets are used during the WSOP to guide hordes of players to the right enclosure. To get one of these bracelets you need only put up the buy-in.

If you can't beat them, cheat them. That could be the credo of many a skilled card sharp. I heard of a world class card magician who had offered to deal the cards at a poker club, "even though I'm not very good at it". His friend took home some 100 grand during a couple of weeks.

The $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo Event just recently completed. Normally, this would be just a nice footnote in history. The winner of the bracelet in most cases would fade off into relative obscurity unless they were one of the big name pros like Annie Duke. That is not the case this year.

Saturday, I took part in the $1,000 buy-in “Stimulus Event” at the WSOP. As expected, the place was a zoo of people and just got worse the closer that we got to the start of the event. Around 3,000 players started Day 1a of the event, and I was one of those located in the Brasilia Room. My table was the pretty standard mix of players.

Avoiding a "Holdem Mentality" in Other Poker Games

4 30 May 2009 , By: compncards
Poker is more than Holdem folks. Texas Holdem is where the majority of the money is made for many players, but there are still many other areas of the game where players can make a killing if they know what they are doing. Some mistakes I see come from what I call the “Holdem mentality. ” When someone has the Holdem mentality, they typically are overvaluing a hand or they are trying to use sheer aggression to win hands when they should be using more finesse.
