Isildur1 Fears the Min-Raise

Allen Kessler twittered that Isildur1 was playing low stakes at Full Tilt. (Which apparently means $50 - $100 NL. ) Anyway, I went over to see who he was playing and I clicked on the two tables that he and Ashton Griffin were playing on. Well, they were there, but Isildur1 wasn't playing.

Verschränkung! Schrödinger's Hole Cards

How does quantum mechanics and a half-dead cat relate to your ability to read your opponents' hole cards? Maybe a lot less than you think. The Austrian physicist Erwin Schröder's famous experiment of placing a cat in a box with a Geiger counter, a radioactive substance and a flask of hydrocyanic acid is interesting in itself: After a while, the radioactive substance might and might not (both are equally likely) have released a subatomic particle that set of the Geiger counter, which in turn would have released the poison and killed the cat. According to one interpretation of quantum mechanics, the cat would then be simultaneously alive and dead. (Obviously no peeking is allowed.

Poker Is not Gambling. Set it Free

2 23 February 2010 , By: Charlie River
In courts across the country, as well as in the US Senate, there are hard discussions around the issue of gambling legislation. Financial institutions are hard pressed to stop transactions to gambling operators. And online poker players are deeply affected by all this. Shipping cash to the poker sites is getting harder by the day.

Reality TV Star Gets 15 More Minutes

The WPT Celebrity Invitational is a charity re-buy tournament held during the LAPC at the Commerce Casino. The charity that benefits from the event is Chrysalis, a Los Angeles based non-profit organization dedicated to helping the homeless population become self-sufficient through job training and employment opportunities. This year the WPT event went heads up with the NAPT inaugural event happening at the Venetian. I can’t imagine why any respectable poker player would want to pass up a $5k buy-in with a field 872 players and a $4 million prize pool to play in a $200k crap-shoot freeroll.

High Stakes Poker Has Become Brutal

Last night I watch High Stakes Poker for the first time since they have went over to the new format. OMG it was brutal. While I like Gabe Kaplan, he seriously needed AJ Benza there or some type of wingman. The banter that the two had back and forth was sorely missed.

Many-Worlds Theory and Poker

22 February 2010 , By: foldsworth
stu wpolo serb
Out of all the possible worlds out there in the multiverse, is it possible that somewhere, Stu Ungar is still alive and not playing poker but water polo? It is definitely worth contemplating. However, I must admit that after thinking about this conundrum for a few hours more questions have been raised than I initially started out with. Ungar was originally a gin rummy player, which has to be taken into the equation. If (and this is really a big if!) Stu were to play water polo instead of poker, what type of game would substitute for gin rummy? Some differential equations that I hastily put together point to nude mountain biking, but the uncertainties are substantial.

Video Poker Is a Game of Skill

3 22 February 2010 , By: Charlie River
All this talk of poker being a skill game makes me sick. It’s trivial, and it’s not the most important thing to say about poker when it comes to legislation. There’s an element of skill in video poker too, but it’s still a sucker game. Here’s why: Video poker is unfair.
