Annette Obrestad

The boom of online poker has had one significant side effect. Great players are getting younger and younger. Having the opportunity to play thousands of hands online, in some cases even before the age of 18, has resulted in some extremely young poker superstars emerging onto the felt. Online poker also provides a great opportunity for young women to learn to excel at the game, as there are no male opponents sitting all around who could potentially attempt to gang up on and intimidate a young woman.

No one has epitomized the up and coming young female poker player better than Annette Obrestad, known online as Annette_15. Indeed, Annette got her name as she started playing poker from her home in Norway at the age of 15. Annette is famous for creating a million dollar bankroll from nothing, starting out by winning poker freerolls and steadily moving up the ladder to bigger and bigger games.

The young Annette is already reaching the status of legend in poker circles. While excitement buzzes over the possibility of a WSOP main event winner under the age of 24, Annette has already won the main event of WSOP Europe at the age of 18!

Upon winning this event, Annette set the record for largest payout in a single event for a female player. She took the record from another legendary female poker star, Annie Duke, who earned the title by winning the 2004 WSOP tournament of champions for two million dollars. In 2010, Annette will be eligible to take her shot at being the youngest WSOP main event champion ever, as Nevada rules prohibit anyone under 21 from taking the felt.

Annette Obrestad is a hero among Norwegian poker players, young poker players and female poker players alike, and has already been a household name online for years. In probably the most famous Anette legends, she is said to have won a 180 person online sit and go while looking at her cards only one time.

While still waiting for her 21st birthday so that she can be unrestricted in her access to live tournaments, Annette is still tearing up the online poker world. On March 2nd, 2008, Annette won first place in the PokerStars Sunday Hundred Grand, a tournament with a field of $20,000 players.

Annette is affiliated with the online poker and casino site Betfair, and is a member of "Team Betfair" along with poker players Sorel Mizzi and John Tabatabai.
