WSOP Europe Kicks Off Friday
The 2013 World Series of Poker Europe kicks off on Friday from the Hôtel du Lac Enghien-les-Bains and the Grand Hôtel Barrière in Paris, France.
This year's event will include eight bracelet events and four dozen events in total.
It will also include a pair of historic events. The series will kick off with the £1,100 Ladies Event, the first-ever European bracelet event for women.
The closing event will be the £25,600 High Roller Event. This will be the first year that the High Roller Event will award a bracelet.
Last year, Phil Hellmuth became the first player in WSOP history to have won the WSOP Main Event and the WSOP-E Main Event.
Hellmuth and Selbst Earn Side-Event Victories at EPT London
Two of poker's biggest names earned victories this past week.
Phil Hellmuth made a rare appearance at EPT London and quickly earned his first EPT cash by winning the £2,000 Open Face Chinese Poker Event.
Hellmuth beat a field of 21 players and survived a final table that included Barry Greenstein. Hellmuth earned £15,800 for first.
Vanessa Selbst added yet another victory to her impressive resume after taking down the UK and Ireland Poker Tour £2,000 High Roller Event on Sunday. She survived a field of 176 players and earned £67,499.
Selbst commented, "I've been feeling really confident about my game lately. I wasn't feeling like that in the World Series. I felt that I underperformed there but in the last few months I really feel like I've been playing my A game so it feels nice to have results that reflect that."
Borgata First Atlantic City Casino Awarded Gaming License
Now that New Jersey has finalized a "go live" date of November 26th, the process of approving online gambling license applications has begun.
The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is the first Atlantic City casino to be awarded a license.
The Borgata is considered to be one of the top casinos in New Jersey and has earned a reputation for excellence, especially when it comes to tournaments. The World Poker Tour recently chose the Borgata as the new home for the WPT Championship.
Online gambling will not begin officially until November 26th, but the site will begin testing on November 21st. At present, only nine of 12 casinos have officially signed gaming partners.
The Borgata will use bwin.party as its provider.
