Poker2Nite Cancelled

It appears the Poker2Nite is no more, or at least according to the twitterâs of Joe Sebok and Scott Huff. Poker2Nite was a poker news program that started on Fox Sports Net and then moved to Versus for season 2. The program was cancelled due to sponsors not renewing according to a twitter from Huff.
I wish I could say that this was shocking. I watched an episode or two of the program and while I thought it was different, it wasnât something that was going to bring me back week after week. Donât get me wrong, there are plenty of people that liked the program but in all reality, poker does not have the same type of causal following as other sports. Everyone knew that this type of program was a gamble and the fact that it got two seasons is actually a good thing.
Will there be more programs like Poker2Nite in the future? It is hard to say. There are so many websites online and content available to poker players and fans, it is really hard to come up with a program that is new and interesting enough to keep fans and sponsors happy. Poker isnât like other professional sports where you can turn out a program at will due to the sheer number of teams.
Poker fans have a somewhat narrow focus. Many have an interest in a few select players or events and then move on. It is going to be hard to keep things interesting for many fans. I hope at some point another program like Poker2Nite gets another shot as I think a program like this still has value. The trick will be convincing both fans and sponsors of the same.
GG Poker2Nite.
