First WSOP Circuit Regional Championship Kicks Off Monday

Monday will kick off the first ever Regional Championship in WSOP Circuit history. For those of you that don't know, the WSOP Circuit has revamped itself this year and players at each stop have a chance to win their way into a season-ending National Championship event that even awards a WSOP bracelet.
Now, I applaud the WSOP for revamping their circuit events. The buzz around them has been great and the $10,000 Event Monday should draw a strong crowd. I am not so sure about awarding a WSOP bracelet for the event. First, it is not an open event. I am never for events that are not open events. Next, it isn't even being played at the same place as the WSOP, unless the Rio gets sold and the WSOP gets moved to Caesars. Next, beyond trying to drum up more business for Harrah's and the Circuit, this bracelets serves no real purpose. Award a special ring, or maybe a special prize for the winner or final table participants, but not a bracelet.
Matt Savage made a claim recently that a WSOP Europe bracelet is not a real bracelet. I do not feel comfortable calling the National Championship bracelet a real bracelet. However, the event is looking to draw a strong crowd. Maybe I am not giving this concept enough of a chance. I just feel that we are going to end up with a National Champion that is a relative no-name and that they will just become a footnote in poker history. Time will tell.
