I logged on this morning and saw an ad stating that the "Big Game" was coming to TV.   When I first saw it, I thought "Nice!  That ought to be a good show. "  Then, I noticed a picture of Daniel Negreanu.   My next thought was "Crap.

It is the age old question, is poker a sport?  There are many arguments against it being so.   First, there is no activity.   Players sit around a table and only make minimal movements. (Usually the least amount of movement the better as not to give any tells)  Some also contend you have to have a ball or some other object to be considered a sport.

"That which we call a rose   By any other name would smell as sweet"                                      Romeo & Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)      The Mouth, Kid Poker, Poker Brat, and Texas Dolly.   Mention these monikers and almost anyone can tell you who they really are.   It seems that it is almost a necessity to have a nickname.   If a player doesn't have one when they start playing, if they stick around long enough and have enough success they will get stuck with one.

In contests throughout the country, whether they are beauty, scholarship, or any other contest, contestants are often asked the same question.   "If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?"  Usually the contestant gets all mushy and names either mom, dad, grandparent, Jesus, or Gandhi.   Once again on the open road of the Texas Panhandle my mind wandered.   If I could sit down with anyone for poker who would it be?       If I took poker players the list is easy.
