Palmer Takes Round 1 vs. Isildur1
Round 1 of the PokerStars Showdown Challenge between Scott "URnotINdangr" Palmer and Viktor "Isilidur1" Blom played out on Sunday with Palmer drawing first blood.
Isildur1 was coming off of a recent loss to Daniel Negreanu one week ago and was looking to get himself back on track, but another small loss was in the cards this time.
Early on in the match, Palmer was up about $45,000, but in just a mere 200 hands, that lead was erased.
Blom would extend his lead to around $50,000 with 1,000 hands left to play, but then Palmer mounted a charge of his own to pull back head just 170 hands later.
Isildur1 retook the lead and was ahead nearly $35,000 with 150 hands left when Palmer mounted a charge that would turn the tide into his favor.
The key hand between the two saw Blom raise to $300 pre-flop and Palmer call to see a flop of 5c-2h-2d. Palmer then check called a bet of $500 from Blom.
When the turn fell the 7d, Palmer against check-called a bet from Blom, this time for $1,400.
The river fell the 4d and then the fireworks commenced.
Palmer checked into Blom, who bet out $2,850. Palmer then raised to $8,600, Blom then shoved for $42,950 and Palmer called for his last $27,225.
Palmer showed pocket fives for a flopped full house and Blom showed 10s-8d for a failed bluff. This $58,850 pot put Palmer back into the lead by $5,075, and he never trailed from that point.
After the conclusion of 2,500 hands, Palmer finished up $5,425. The key stat for the session was pots won of $10,000 or more. Palmer finished the session winning 16 out of the 24 pots over $10k.
The two players will return next weekend and battle for another 2,500 hands to determine the winner in this edition of PokerStars SuperStar Showdown Challenge.
