An end of an era has arrived. was launched in 1999 and was one of the first online poker sites to hit the internet.  When the poker boom hit, the site expanded its game offerings and became one of the most popular sites on the internet.  It was also one of the first online poker rooms that were compatible with Macs.  All of that has come to an end with the announcement of PokerRoom's shutdown.

Players and affiliates received an email last week that stated that PokerRoom would cease operations effective April 14th.  Players have the option to either cash out or move their money to  This move was made PokerRoom's parent company, Ongame Network after the site failed to keep up the popularity of other sites on the network.

Due to the UIGEA, PokerRoom was forced to leave the U.S. market in September 2006.  After losing a massive portion of their user base, PokerRoom was never able to recover to remain viable to the Ongame Network.

PokerRoom is another in a long list of sites that have shut down either as a direct or indirect result of the UIGEA.  While the site is no longer active, it will be remembered by the players that played there as a great place to play.
