Rounders is a movie created by Miramax productions, about a struggling poker player who finds games and tries to win. Matt Damon leads a great cast in the story of risk and the extreme price of friendship. After saving up from years of beating small poker games he risks it all at the biggest game in town KGB?s, (a man with connections all the way up to the Russian Mob) underground card room. The game they play is NL Texas Hold?em 25,000 buy in, hold em is widely considered the best and most exciting poker game to play. After a few hands Mike picks up a full house and moves all of his chips into the pot against KGB who is also a feared poker player. He ultimately lost to a higher full house and was shell shocked, because of this beat and has no money left. He took to big of a risk. He thinks that he has played his last hand and for a few months he doesn?t play any hands of poker at all, he focuses on his loving girlfriend, and hard work at law school which he thinks will pay him off in the long run.

He promised his girlfriend that he was done playing cards and has moved on. His buddy gets out of jail and the lure of the tables is too much, so he comes back to play, at a small home game, he then becomes hooked again. His friend, Edward Norton, known as worm has been holding a huge debt to a poker bad boy while he was in jail, and the juice was running so it almost doubled in interest when he was in jail. Matt Damon and Edward Norton try to build up a stake, while sometimes cheating games by Norton giving Damon great cards when he was at the dealer button. Damon?s girlfriend discovers that he has been gambling again and leaves him he is up to his emotional threshold with problems and he doesn?t know what to do.

So what he does is go play more poker. They beat a lot of games and then go down to a city where there is a cop game going on with a big buy in Damon tells Norton he wants to play straight up no cheating, and for Norton not to come into the card room. After hours of playing Norton shows up and asks like he doesn?t no Damon. They are caught cheating and are severely beaten up by the cops and their whole bankroll is taken. Their debt is almost due and if they don?t pay up they will be killed. So Norton runs, and Damon comes back to down with no money he asks for a loan from his law school teacher and is given 10,000-15,000 dollars. He goes to KGB who is affiliated with the man that they owe the money too and he wants to play him heads up, Damon finds himself playing for his life and ultimately comes out on top after picking up a tell on KGB. Damon wins 60,000 off of him in one night because of that tell and after that he heads to the big dance, The World Series of Poker.

In my opinion this is the best Poker movie ever made the scenes where they play are great it is unbelievably realistic and is definitely more then I expected it to me. Without this movie poker would definitely not be as big as it is today, Moneymaker and many other online players such as myself credit this to how they started playing poker. Without this film I definitely would not be playing cards today. The only bad thing about this is that maybe him being killed would not be realistic if he didn?t pay up because why would they want to kill him. I mean don?t they just want to wait for him to pay the money. That is my only question about the film. This is the quote from the film that I will leave you with if you haven?t watched this movie this is a must-watch.? In the game of life?.Play the cards you?re dealt.? Rounders

Yeah, it may have given poker a shot in the arm, but it's a terrible movie, and remains a lame attempt to Bogart on the success of Good Will Hunting with Matt Damon playing another genius character. Edward Norton may be the worst actor I've ever seen--wait, there is Richard Gere--and when his character disappears from the film nobody cares because he and his character both suck.
