Isildur1 Barely Survives Challenge from DodgyFish72
What was expected to be a walk in the park for Viktor "Isildur1" Blom yesterday turned out to be the best match thus far of the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown.
The latest edition of the Showdown went down Sunday with Blom facing online qualifier DodgyFish72 in a four-table $5/$10 No-Limit Hold'em challenge.
DodgyFish72 held an early lead, but that was quickly erased and by the time the halfway point was reached in the match, Isildur1 held a $10,768 advantage.
Since DodgyFish72 was given just $15,000 to play with, the end seemed near.
Several observers then noticed shortly after the halfway point that DodgyFish72 had started to change his style. This started to pay off as Blom's lead slowly began to shrink.
Then a huge hand developed that put DodgyFish72 back into contention.
After DodgyFish72 three-bet pre-flop, Isildur1 called to see a flop of K-3-K. DodgyFish72 check-called a bet from Blom. The turn fell an ace and once again, DodgyFish72 checked to Blom.
Blom moved all-in and received a call for a $5,550 pot. Blom showed K-9 for flopped trips, but DodgyFish72 showed pocked aces for aces-full.
The case king did not fall and everyone could feel that the momentum had shifted.
Isildur1's lead continued to shrink and with 34 hands left he was left with just a $1,520 lead. Amazingly, DodgyFish72 managed to wipe out that deficit to pull even with Blom with just one hand left to play.
The final hand saw DodgyFish72 in the big blind. Isildur1 then moved all-in from the small blind for $3,745. DodgyFish72 failed to make the call and Isildur1 took down the match, winning by just $10, the equivalent of one big blind.
The good news for DodgyFish72 is that he gets to keep the $14,990 that was left over from the challenge.
This makes Isildur1 4-1 in the SuperStar Showdown Challenge. His next opponent in the challenge has yet to be announced.
