Day 8 at the 2010 WSOP is underway. Event #11 is another $1,500 NL Holdem event and that one kicked off at Noon. Event #9, the $1,500 PL Holdem Event, kicked off at 2:30 and just made the money. Event #8, $1,500 NL Holdem, and Event #10, $10,000 7 Card Stud World Championship, both started at 3 p.m.

Hellmuth Chases 12

Phil Hellmuth started 5th in chips at the start of Day 3 of the $1,500 NL Holdem event. 25 players remain and this event will play to a winner today. Before the beginning of the WSOP, I predicted that Hellmuth would get his 12th bracelet this year. Hellmuth is masterful at working his way through large fields and taking advantage of weak competition that you will find in the lower buy-in NL events at the WSOP.

A lot of people like to discount Phil due to his style of play and the fact that he really excels in tournaments as opposed to cash games. However, I must remind folks that Hellmuth does have one WPT final table and bubbled another one in the last year. You cannot be a slouch and go deep in a WPT event, especially with the caliber of player that enters the event nowadays. I will be pulling hard for Hellmuth in this one.

We Are Americans

National patriotism is a funny thing. In the Pavilion Room there is a bracelet ceremony each day and the national anthem of the bracelet winner is played. Most players stand out of respect for the winner and their country. Today, I skipped the bracelet ceremony in lieu of being here when the 2:30 restarts began. The first two bracelet winners were from Hungary and Canada, and nobody moved a muscle when their anthems played. However, as soon as the U.S. National Anthem started, 95% of the room stood up, removed hats etc. Respect be damned over here. We are Americans.

Team V-Necks

First, I got to give props to Daniel Negreanu for spotting this. Daniel is in the 10k Stud Event and he spotted several guys on the rail wearing the exact same shirt. They are all wearing very low cut v-neck t-shirts. Daniel then decided to ask what was up. He asked if they were all part of the same group and they all nodded in agreement. Then Daniel yells out, “Go Team. Go v-necks.” Here is a pic of the guys. You can see one of the shirts and how low it is cut.

Go Team V-Neck!

Thanks for your contribution Daniel. Too bad you just busted from the 10k Stud.

Keeping “Abreast” of Things

For the last few days, I have been spotting girls associated with the company “On Tilt” that have been going around in nice tight t-shirts and passing out hats. They always seem to scurry away before I can get pics. Not today!! Here’s an “OnTilt” girl to keep you abreast on the day’s events.

God bless OnTilt.

Action rolls along here at the Rio. I’ll be back a bit later to update you to any happenings. Event 8 is almost down to 2 tables with Hellmuth still in. Stay tuned to pokerjunkie.com as we bring you more coverage from the 2010 WSOP.
