Welcome to the 2015 World Series of Gimmick Poker Tournaments
The 2015 World Series of Poker schedule is out. After the major success of a couple gimmick events from last year, we knew things would be different in 2015.
At first glance, one would probably ask if there are possibly "too many" gimmick events on this year's schedule.
My initial knee-jerk reaction was yes but after looking closely at the schedule, I must admit that I like it.
Yes, there are several events on the schedule that are geared at padding the numbers or drawing in the low-roller. However, that's not a bad thing.
Some of these low-rollers are going to get lucky whether it is in the tournaments or in the cash games and they are going to stick around a while to give us their money.
Next, anything that we can do to grow the game at this point should be welcome with open arms because gimmick events such as the $777 Lucky 7's or the Colossus can also lead to events such as the $25,000 PLO or the $10k Mixed Game.
When I saw Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Regular on the 10-Game Mix, I smiled. I love high-low stud and it has literally been close to a decade since I played it at low stakes. Wonderful game that needs to expand.
Keep in mind that while there are more gimmick events this year, there are still plenty of standard events with expanded blind levels and larger starting stacks. We also have a $25k PLO. How sweet is that. You have to give a little to get a little.
If there was ever a time to play the WSOP for the first time, this is it. If you have been away a while and have the itch to come back, this is the year.
Perhaps a June flight to Vegas is in order.....
