Thursday, Jun 3, 2010 WSOP 2010 Event 5 - Praz Bansi Wins Second Career Bracelet

Event #5 of the 2010 WSOP was a $1,500 NL Holdem.  2,092 players turned out to take a shot at $515,501 in prize money and a gold bracelet.

WSOP 2010 Event 5 winner Praz Bansi

216 players received a payday in this event.  Among the notables that finished in the money were Todd Witteles, Humberto Brenes, Tad Jurgens, Will "The Thrill" Failla, Shannon Shorr, Mats Gavatin, Dustin Woolf, Chris Moorman, Dewey Tomko, and Lars Bonding.  Chris "The Armenian Express" Grigorian finished 37th. Yuval Bronshtein fell just short of the final table, finishing in 12th.

David Sands and Praz Bansi headlined a final table that started with Kyle Knecht as chip leader.  Here are the final nine players and their starting chip counts:

Seat 1: Kyle Knecht                1,990,000
Seat 2: David Tuthill               264,000
Seat 3: Donald Offord            797,000
Seat 4: Tomer Berda               2,000,000
Seat 5: Vincent Jacques          1,518,000
Seat 6: David Sands               585,000
Seat 7: Praz Bansi                   550,000
Seat 8: Calvin Kordus             1,111,000
Seat 9: Hugh Bell                    549,000

Sands would go out in 8th place when he shoved with fours and ran into the pocket jacks of Praz Bansi.  Bansi actually battle all the way back from being the third shortest stack to start the final table to being the chip leader at the start of heads-up play with Vincent Jacques.  He led with 5.14 Million to the 4.28 Million of Jacques.

From that point, it was a slow grind for Bansi.  He was never really in danger as he ground Jacques down to 315,000 in chips.  Jacques finally shoved with A-8 and Bansi woke up with A-J of spade.  A flop of Q-Q-J put Bansi in the lead.  An eight on the turn gave Jacques some hope, but a river deuce would spell the end of his tournament.

Praz Bansi is the Event #5 champion.  He won the bracelet and $515,501 in prize money.  This was Bansi's second bracelet win.  He took down a $1,000 NL bracelet in 2006.  Bansi also finished 3rd at the WSOP Europe in 2009.

Congratulations to Praz Bansi, $1,500 NL Holdem Champion.
