Thursday, Jun 24, 2010 WSOP 2010 Event 39 - Steven Kelly Wins $1,500 NL Holdem Shootout
Event #39 at the 2010 WSOP was the $1,500 NL Holdem Shootout Event. 1,397 players turned out to try their hand at winning a bracelet and $381,922.
WSOP 2010 Event 39 winner Steven Kelly
Normally, a shootout event is a three round series in order to win a bracelet. Win the first table and you cash, win the 2nd table and you make the final table. Win the final table and you win the bracelet. The first two rounds were as normal, but for this event, the last round was a 2 table sit-n-go with the winner taking the bracelet.
Going into Day 3 play, two big names had managed to win their first two tables. Annette Obrestad and J.C. Tran were both in the field with 14 players left. Unfortunately, both players were eliminated before the final table with Tran finishing in 13th and Obrestad in 11th. Derric Haynie was the chip leader going into the final table. Here is how the final nine players started final table play:
| Derric Haynie | 1,378,000 |
| Steven Kelly | 926,000 |
| Dustin Dirksen | 832,000 |
| Brett Shaffer | 789,000 |
| Reagan Leman | 750,000 |
| Paul Varano | 598,000 |
| Jeffrey King | 580,000 |
| Michael Cooper | 298,000 |
| Justin Scott | 149,000 |
Jeffrey King and Steven Kelly battled for the bracelet. Kelly started heads up play with a 4.6 Million chip lead against the 1.7 Million of King. King was never able to get any traction heads-up and ultimately shoved pre-flop for 1.5 Million with Ks-Qd. Kelly made the call with Ah-9d. The flop fell 3-J-9 to give Kelly a pair, but now King had a gutshot draw. The turn 2c missed both players and the river 3h sealed the deal for Kelly.
Steven Kelly is the Event #39 Champion. He took home the bracelet and $381,922. Congratulations.
