Tuesday, Jun 22, 2010 WSOP 2010 Event 34 - Harold Angle Wins $1,000 Seniors World Championship

Event #34, the $1,000 Seniors Championship, started with 3,142 players looking to work their way towards the last non-open bracelet of the year and $487,994.

WSOP 2010 Event 34 winner Harold Angle

The field of 3,142 players that entered Day 1 of the WSOP seniors event 2010 broke the record for the largest single day field in the history of live poker.  By the end of Day 1 play, the field was reduced by over 80% as only 450 players made Day 2 action.

Day 2 saw the money reached in this event and several pros made the money in this event.  "Captain" Tom Franklin, Hoyt Corkins, Howard Andrew, and TJ Cloutier all made the money on Day 2.  2008 Player of the Year Tom Schneider was still alive in this event at the start of Day 3 as 23 players returned to play their way to a bracelet.  Schneider finished in 14th place, leaving the way for nine amateurs to take a shot at this bracelet.

John Woo started the final table as the chip leader with Daniel Camillo right behind.  Here is how the final nine players started final table action:

Seat 1: Eric Stemp - 830,000
Seat 2: Harold Angle - 713,000
Seat 3: Jay Hong - 596,000
Seat 4: Preston Derden - 585,000
Seat 5: Michael Minetti - 1,487,000
Seat 6: Carlos Pianelli - 243,000
Seat 7: Jack Ward - 1,278,000
Seat 8: John Woo - 1,913,000
Seat 9: Daniel Camillo - 1,809,000

Heads-up play was between Harold Angle and Mike Minetti.  Angle held a 9 Million chip lead against 600,000 from Minetti.  Minetti managed to double-up, but that only put him up to 1.2 Million in chips, and that is about as far as he would get.  From that point, he was ground back down to around 700,000 and in the final hand, he put his stack at risk pre-flop with pocket jacks and was called by Angle with Ks-Js.  Unfortunately for Minetti, the flop fell Kc-9s-9d to give Angle kings-up and the lead.  The turn 8c and river 5h missed Minetti, and Harold Angle is our champion.

78 years young Harold Angle is the Seniors World Champion.  In addition to the gold bracelet and $487,994, Angle also received the "Golden Eagle Trophy", awarded to the winner of the Seniors Championship.

Congratulations to Harold Angle, Seniors World Champion.
