Tuesday, Jun 8, 2010 WSOP 2010 Event 11 - Simon Watt Defeats Tom Dwan for $1,500 NL Bracelet

Event #11 of the 2010 WSOP was yet another $1,500 NL Holdem Event. 2,563 players turned out to chase down a bracelet and $381,885.  By the end of the end, the entire poker world would be focused on one player.

270 players made the money in this event.  However, once the money was reached, everyone in the poker world was watching one man only, Tom "durrrr" Dwan.  Many of the big name pros have a lot of money wagered against Dwan winning a bracelet.  By the beginning of Day 3, Dwan entered play as the chip leader and many players were getting very nervous at the prospect of losing Millions to the online sensation.

Play ultimately reached the final table on Day 3 and Tom Dwan was the solid chip leader.  Former bracelet winner Jason Young was also at the final table.  Here is how the final nine players started in chips:

Seat 1: Jason Young                                                   1,304,000
Seat 2: Michael Smith                                                 622,000
Seat 3: Marvin Rettenmaier                                        525,000
Seat 4: Tom "durrrr" Dwan                                         2,412,000
Seat 5: Austin McCormick                                         1,939,000
Seat 6: Kyle Winter                                                    502,000
Seat 7: Eric "AvrilSharapova" Ladny                         969,000
Seat 8: David "ghettofabulous" Randall                     1,803,000
Seat 9: Simon Watt                                                     1,466,000

Jason Young finished 5th in the event, but nobody cared.  The gallery was clearly pro-Dwan.  Many of the pros were following the action from the $10,000 Stud 8 Event that started earlier in the evening, and many there were anti-Dwan's winning.

Heads-up play came down to Tom Dwan against Simon Watt.  However, Dwan had become the short stack with three players left and had only mildly improved his position.  He trailed Watt 8.3 Million to 3.16 Million.  Dwan never really got much closer than that and eventually Dwan was down to 1.645 Million.  He moved all-in from the button with Qd-6c and was called by Watt with pocket nines.  A queen failed to hit the board and the bankrolls of pros across the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas and around the poker world are safe, for now.

Simon Watt is the Event #11 Champion.  While he won the bracelet and $614,248, he may go down as "The man that denied Durrrr."
