Monday, Jun 7, 2010 WSOP 2010 Event 10 - Men "The Master" Nguyen Wins Stud World Championship
Event #10 of the 2010 WSOP was the $10,000 Seven Card Stud World Championship. 150 of the world's best turned out to take their shot at this title and $394,800 in prize money.
WSOP 2010 Event 10 winner Men Nguyen
All of the big names turned out for this event. Only 16 players made the money in this event. Yuval Bronstein, Pat Pezzin, Eric Buchman, and Dan Heimiller were among those that cashed but did not make the final table.
Both Michael Mizrachi and Vladimir Schmelev made the final table of this event. They were looking to recreate their heads-up match from the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship. Men "The Master" Nguyen had other ideas. He headed into the final table as chip leader and was looking for his 7th WSOP gold bracelet. Here were how the final eight players started final table play:
Seat 1: Men Nguyen (847,000)
Seat 2: Steve Billirakis (610,000)
Seat 3: Vladimir Schmelev (735,000)
Seat 4: Sirious Jamshidi (365,000)
Seat 5: Joe Cassidy (199,000)
Seat 6: Michael Mizrachi (298,000)
Seat 7: Nikolay Evdakov (823,000)
Seat 8: Brandon Adams (625,000)
It was Men Nguyen and Brandon Adams that ultimately battled heads-up for the bracelet. Nguyen led 2.7 Million to 1.8 Million to start heads up play. He then proceeded to grind Adams down to where Adams was left with just 360,000.
Then, in a hand that was reminiscent of John Phan's first bracelet win in 2008, the two decided to play the final hand blind. Adams agreed with Nguyen to go all-in blind on third street without looking. After all the chips were in, Adams held A-Q-3 against the 10-9-6 of Nguyen. By the river, Adams held a pair of queens. Nguyen held a pair of sixes on sixth and then squeezed his last card. His last card gave him kings-up for two pair and the championship.
Men "The Master" Nguyen is one of only eight players in WSOP history to hold at least seven bracelets. In addition to the bracelet he received $394,800 in prize money.
Below are the final table payouts:
