WSOP Results Matter
I think it is time that we all face facts about a very basic reality when it comes to living in contemporary society, particularly American contemporary society. Here goes, folks: results matter.
That's right, for all we would like to delude ourselves into thinking that the journey is more important than the destination, in our heart of hearts we know better. Don't we?
Actually, looking back on that last sentence I just typed, I dont entirely believe it. There is a lot to be said about the importance of the journey. For if we keep our focus fixed solely upon our destination, we will surely miss much of the point of any endeavor in life. I guess what I truly believe is that the journey and the destination are in fact the same thing, disguised as opposites. This can be a most difficult truth to grasp when we get caught up in the pressures and priorities of everyday life. Therefore, I strongly recommend daily meditation as a way of breaking self-imposed mental barriers and seeing the inherent oneness shared between yourself and the universe at large.
But I seem to have gotten off track here. I was talking about the importance of results. Well, if you are planning a trip to the World Series of Poker this year, you most certainly are interested in getting a good result out of the experience. So, allow me to offer you a few guidelines and suggestions that you would do well to bear in mind.
First of all, let's take a look at what a good result would be for someone going to the WSOP as a participant in the tournament. This would obviously involve winning the main event and becoming an overnight superstar in the world of high-stakes poker. While it is statistically possible for that to happen to you, it is not very likely. This does not mean you cannot have a good result simply by performing in this most honored of all poker events.
Therefore, if you're going to the WSOP via a successful online satellite competition or have simply decided to pony up the $10K buy-in fee required to enter the main event, never forget the fact that you are participating in one of the greatest traditions in the whole gaming world. So, even if you end up not making a single penny or being eliminated in the very first round, hold your head high. Because you are part of something much larger than yourself and that is a great result for any trip.
If, however, you are attending as a spectator, all you really want out of the trip is to enjoy yourself, to sample the many delights of Vegas and be able to make it back home with your dignity, sanity and bank statement intact. Therefore, in order to get a good result from this type of trip, there's only one thing to remember: use your common sense at all times.
