4th Annual Five-Star WPC - Day 2

Aggressive Antonius on the Move

In the first two days we did not see much action. Only 132 players were eliminated in the first day's two groups. Now there were 473 players left and with the escalating blinds we were probably about to see some more chips being pushed around.

4th Annual Five-Star World Poker Classic No-Limit Hold'em Championship Day 2 - Thursday, April 20th, 2006

| Day 1A | Day 1B | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 |

That was just what happened. More then half of the remaining field were eliminated including some of the top-names such as: Amnon Filippi, Daniel Negreanu, Kenna James, Huck Seed and Mike Matusow.

Phil Ivey was also eliminated in the second day. Robert Young raised to $2,000 preflop and Ivey raised it up to 9,000. Young called and the flop came 4-3-2. Ivey decided to bet $15,000 and once again Young called. A jack came on the turn and Ivey moved all in for another $15.000. Young called and turned over pocket aces. Ivey had nines in the hole and did not hit any of his two outs on the river.

Patrik Antonius carried on playing great on the second day. He built his stack up to over $500.000. He will be a force to be reckoned with in this WPT event, he shows an amazing feeling for the game and his aggressive style sure pays off.

Among the eliminated: Daniel Negreanu, Huck Seed , Phil Ivey, Jeff Shulman, Darrell Dicken, John Gale, Alan Goehring, Kenna James, Mike Matusow, Alex Jacob and Hoyt Corkins.

Mason Raymond's Top 3

1. Hellmuth shuts up "Loud Mouth" - I think everyone expected a lot of trash talk when Phil Hellmuth and Mike Matusow were seated at the same table. We didn't get much of that, but we got some exciting poker action instead. Matusow went all-in with pocket 5's against Hellmuth's A-10. Hellmuth caught an Ace and Matusow was eliminated. One of the worst Bad Beats in the history of poker, right Mike?

2. Greg Mueller's disappointment - Greg "FBT" Mueller moved all-in with pocket Aces and naturally though that he was in a good position. Unfortunately, however, one of his opponents was holding the other two Aces. Things almost went from bad to extremely bad for Mueller when the other guy picked up a flush draw, but in the end it was a split pot.

3. Negreanu and Ivey eliminated - Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey are two of the greatest poker players in the world, but neither of them made it past day two in the WPT World Championship. I think it's sad, because they are both exciting players to watch, and great ambassadors of the game. I will miss them tomorrow, and later on in the tournament.
