4th Annual Five-Star WPC - Day 1B

A Bad Day for Pocket Aces

Now we are off with the second day one. The second field of the initial 605 entrants are going to battle there way through a tough line up of players.

4th Annual Five-Star World Poker Classic No-Limit Hold'em Championship Day 1B - Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

| Day 1A | Day 1B | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 |

Today we have spotted: Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, Liz Lieu, Carlos Mortensen, Men Nguyen, Johnny Chan, Cliff Josephy, Steve Dannenmann and Kenna James, just to mention a few. All of them are hoping to win the first price; a trophy and $3,760,165.

Just as the first day the game started of slow. Big stacks and low blinds usually do this to the game. Players just don't want to risk their tournament-life with just a good hand; they seem to look for the nuts to move their chips into the middle. At the end of this day only 60 more players had left the tournament.

As we also saw in the first day, some of the players like to come in late. Phil Hellmuth and Layne Flack did this yesterday. Today we could see Ted Forrest's empty seat for many hours and after a while he had just under $40,000 left in chips. I guess poker players like Ted Forrest are amazingly rich, not many would pay over ten grand in blinds without even looking at a single card.

A big winner today was Patrik Antonius who accumulated over $200.00 in chips.

Among the eliminated: Liz Lieu, Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari and Andrew Black.

Mason Raymond's Top 3

1. Liz Lieu - Sadly, the poker babe of poker babes suffered a bad beat and got eliminated from the tournament. Lieu moved all-in with pocket Aces and got called buy a player (I think his name was Martin something) holding pocket kings. He flopped a set and the WPT dream was over for Liz Lieu this time. Damn. Now I won't get to see what she will be wearing tomorrow. Or will I?

2. Deeb and Voulgaris clash - Freddy Deeb knocked Haralabos Voulgaris out of the tournament and the Canadian couldn't take it. Luckily (?), security separated the two before anything serious happened. If there would have been a fight my money would have been on Freddy Deeb. He looks dangerous.

3. Carlos Mortensen's minimum raise - or what would call it when a player raises with just one card? He waited until Evelyn Ng called him to point out that a mistake had been made. The dealer looked a little embarrassed to say the least.

Interview with Carlos Mortensen

In one hand you were dealt only one card. Has that ever happened to you before?
- Ha ha, a lot of crazy things have happened to me at the poker table, but I don't remember that happening before. Not in a major tournament anyway.

You raised with your single card. Was it an Ace?
- Sorry, I can't tell you. That would be giving away too much information to my opponents, ha ha.
