Tommy Vedes Wins WPT Festa al Lago

Tommy Vedes won the 2009 WPT Festa al Lago. A first place prize of $1.2 million should patch things up for the New Yorker who came close in the WSOP Main Event this summer.

In the eighth WPT Festa al Lago tournament at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, 275 players put up the $15,000 buy-in for a total prize pool of $3.5 million and then some.

The final table saw a few well-known names, like "Freddy" Deeb and Kido Pham.

After six days of play, Tommy Vedes had managed to hang around with a short stack several times through some lucky breaks, before he finally was the last man standing.

Vedes pocketed a nice first prize of $1,218,225 dollars for the effort.

"I feel great," Vedes told the press after winning.

"It's unbelievable. I didn't think it was going to happen so fast. After the World Series, travelling to Europe and everything else, playing this event and shipping it is just amazing."
