Monday, Jun 29, 2009 Scotty Nguyen + 50K HORSE = No Back to Back
We know how badly Scotty Nguyen wanted to repeat his feat from 2008 and winning the 50K HORSE back-to-back. It didn't happen. Scotty went out in 22nd place.
In the 2009 WSOP, the $50K HORSE World Championship attracted fewer players than the three preceding years. This year, only 95 players coughed up the 50,000 required to sit down and play for one of the most prestigious titles in poker.
"No fold baby, I've got nut-nut" (2008 WSOP 50K final table)
For obvious reasons, most of them were established pros. Among the players who survived Scotty Nguyen we find Vitaly Lunkin, Erik Sagstrom, Freddy Deeb, Gus Hansen, Huck Seed, Tony G, Erik Seidel, Todd Brunson and Thor Hansen.
With this elimination, the chances for Scotty Nguyen to win $4 million got a lot slimmer. That's the sum he's set out to win during the 2009 WSOP, or else he'll quit poker.
No one knows how seriously he meant this, and in a later context he's supposed to have added "in one year", which is a much weaker statement of course.
We at PokerJunkie know how fond Scotty is of his wife, his kids and his flowers. Staying home for a year, until the 2010 WSOP, wouldn't seem totally out of the imaginable.
Not with a baby like Back to Back Baby.
