Doyle Faces Cancer Surgery
Long-time pro Vanessa Rousso is no longer part of Team PokerStars while one of poker's greats faces his 12th major surgery.
Vanessa Rousso Leaves PokerStars
Long-time Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso appears to have released from her contract with the company.
Several news sources reported on the story over the week and attempts to find a mention of Rousso on the website proved futile.
Rousso joined Team PokerStars back in 2006 after finishing seventh at the WPT Five Star World Poker Classic in Las Vegas. She went on to win over $3.5 million in live tournaments and millions online.
Rousso's release is the latest in list of pros who have not seen their contracts renweed since this summer. Some of those pros include Humberto Brenes, Joe Cada, Alex Kravchenko, Angel Guillen and Jose "Nacho" Barbero.
Doyle Brunson to Undergo Cancer Surgery
Doyle Brunson, 10-Time WSOP Bracelet winner and two-time Main Event Champion, revealed late Thursday that he is facing his third cancer surgery, this time to remove a melanoma.
Brunson shared the news via Twitter and revealed that the cancer is in its early stages, meaning a high likelihood that he will beat it. However, the fact that he is 81 doesn't escape him.
Brunson joked in a follow-up tweet that he's heard that you get lucky before you die and he decided to go play some poker. While morbid, what else would you expect from one of the greats of the game?
Doyle Brunson is one of the original Texas "Road Gamblers," taking up the game after a freak injury forced him to give up basketball. He took up poker and discovered he could make more money in a single night than in six-months at a job. He turned pro and never looked back.
Now 60 years later, Brunson has over $10 million in live tournament victories and countless millions in cash game earnings. He is also the author of Super System, the "Bible of Poker."
