Thursday, Sep 10, 2009 Ray Davis First Ever WCOOP Badugi Champ

Veteran pro Ray Davis won the inaugural PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker Badugi event and took home $19,912 in prize money.

The Badugi event was added to the WCOOP schedule after constant nagging from Team PokerStars pro Barry Greenstein, who hosted the tournament.

A total of 376 players paid the $320 buy-in. One of them was Greenstein (of course), but when it was time for the final table "The Robin Hood of Poker" was only present in the chat box.

Several other PokerStars pros - Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, and Chris Moneymaker - entered the event but none of them made it very deep.

Instead, Ray Davis claimed his first ever WCOOP title and the $19,912 first prize. Among his opponents on the final table were Danny "THE__D__RY" Ryan and Billy "The Croc" Argyros.

Davis has earned over $1.5 in live tournaments, but he has never won a major title on the live scene.

Now he has one of the most coveted online prizes - a WCOOP bracelet.
