Wednesday, Aug 6, 2008 Poker revenues down because of Euro 2008
It's confirmed; poker players like football (soccer). Pacific Poker internet gaming firm 888 Holdings stated that their poker revenues fell 10 % this summer because of the European football championships.
888 Holdings said net gaming revenue from its poker section was 20 million dollars during the second quarter this year. The sum was the same as the prior year, but down 10% compared to the previous three months.
The Gibraltar-based company stated that the slowdown was "in line with general industry weakness during the Euro 2008 football tournament".
Revenues per active poker player during the quarter were also down 9% compared to the first three months of 2008 (to 116 dollars).
The company said the number of active poker players fell 1% to 169,898 during the second quarter. The number of active casino players rose 1% to 77,837. So there you have it - poker players like football more than casino players.
