UB Hops Aboard the Ho Train and Phil Hellmuth Jumping Ship?
A couple of weeks ago, three pros left the UB roster. Having some space to fill they decided to fill that space by signing female pro Maria Ho to a sponsorship deal. Many people outside of poker will remember Ho for her stint on the Amazing Race with Tiffany Michelle. In poker circles, she is known for her great play and many think that she is one of the hotter female pros. Many figure it was Tiffany Michelleâs influence that led to Hoâs singing, and that is probably a fair assessment. In Ho, UB picks up a female pro that has more than one really strong showing to her name. Of course, in the poker world, sponsorship is sometimes more about glam than substance.
On the flip side, there have been some interesting rumblings regarding UBâs #1 endorser. Phil Hellmuth has been rumored to be seen attending poker functions and playing in events WITHOUT his customary UB.com patches. He did not wear any patches to the November Nine final table when he commentated for ESPN3, nor did he wear one to a recent Poker After Dark taping. Other reports have him showing up for charity events without the patch. Some have speculated that he may be renegotiating his deal. I was quick to point out that the last time someone was rumored to be renegotiating their deal, Liv Boeree suddenly appeared as a PokerStars pro. Could this the time that Phil Hellmuth becomes a Full Tilt red pro? How big of a story would that be? Also, how big of a black eye does that give UB if Hellmuth jumps ship? Personally, I would not blame Phil if he decided to take his show elsewhere.
