It's Benza Good Knowing Ya
It looks like AJ Benza has been replaced for the next season of High Stakes Poker. According to Benza's blog, he has been replaced with a currently unnamed female host.
I am not sure exactly what I think about this move by GSN. I will admit that I have never been a big fan of Benza, but at the same time, I think that he and Kaplan work well together. The one plus going for HSP was the fact that they presented the game in a way that was actually interesting. No player interviews on the side or "eye candy" to try and get more viewers. If you liked to watch cash game poker, this was a good show.
My feeling is that they are adding a female to the lineup to keep in tune with other shows such as the World Poker Tour or Poker After Dark. I like how the WPT uses their female hosts, but I have never been much of a fan of the way PAD does theirs.
With that being said, if they were to bring in a female poker personality, I would be on board with that. When I say personality, I mean a great female player. If they replace Benza with a Jennifer Harman type pro, I would have no problem whatsoever. However, they are going to probably go for "sex appeal" and I think that is just sad.
