eBay Removes Eskimo Clark's 1999 WSOP Bracelet After Auction Closes

As most of you know, Eskimo Clark's 1999 WSOP bracelet recently sold for $4,050 on eBay. Those that follow my blog and Twitter also know that I was one of the bidders on the bracelet and stopped pursuing it after the bidding exceeded $4,000.

Granted, had I known that $4,100 would have won the item, I may have bid again. In the end, it looks like it may have been a good thing I didn't win it as eBay sent me a notice today stating that the item was REMOVED from eBay.

For those of you that are not aware of how an auction works on eBay, once an item has finished, it remains in history for 90 days. You can go back and look at the item and see who won. In this case, eBay removed the item.

Essentially, it nullifies the transaction and even states "If you won the item but haven't paid, don't pay. Since eBay removed the listing, you're no longer obligated to go through with the transaction."

I took an additional step and contacted eBay about the item. From what they told me, there is a restriction on the account, and that is why they pulled the item. Granted, a restriction can be anything from the person not paying his auction fees to there being listing violations, such as the bracelet being a fake or stolen.

eBay wouldn't tell me the specifics, but considering this person was new to eBay, I doubt it was due to lack of paying auction fees.

Of course, I have no idea if the actual winner put up the money for the item and received it or not. At the same time, it makes me wonder if the other bracelet listed on eBay was removed. Time will tell, and if I discover more about the matter, I will keep you informed.

Below is the complete notice I received from eBay:

Hello compncards (personal email address removed),

We're writing to let you know that this listing for an item you won or bid on is no longer available:

220700037337 - 1999 World Series of Poker Bracelet

We understand this may be disappointing, but occasionally we need to remove listings. In some cases, the item itself is fine, but was listed in a way that didn't follow eBay's guidelines.

Here's what you can do next:

-- If you already paid, received your item, and you're satisfied, please disregard this notice.

-- If you won the item but haven't paid, don't pay. Since eBay removed the listing, you're no longer obligated to go through with the transaction.

-- If you already paid for this item through eBay, and it's past the estimated delivery time, you can open a case in our Resolution Center. Click the link below, and select the "I haven't received it yet" option. This will guide you through the process of opening a case.

If the seller offers you the item outside of eBay, we strongly discourage you from accepting the offer. These types of transactions are extremely risky and aren't covered by eBay buyer protection programs.

If you didn't pay through eBay or PayPal, and:

-- You paid by Western Union or MoneyGram, contact the company directly (Western Union 800-325-6000 or MoneyGram 800-926-9400).

-- You paid by check, contact your bank to stop payment.

Thanks,

eBay

Eskimo not paying fees and owing someone money.
    No surprise.
