PokerPages.com Purchased by PokerStars - Man in Utah Chooses Firing Squad
Late last year, Pokerpages.com announced that they were ceasing operations due to economic problems. Well, October 31st came and went and the site was still operational. 2009 went into the record books and Pokerpages remained. We went into April and the site was still there and even updating some material. Now we know why. PokerStars announced earlier in the week that they have purchased PokerPages.com as well as Poker-Babes.com and PlayWinningPoker.com.
I am extremely happy to hear this development. Hopefully PokerStars will begin to expand and update the content of the site in a meaningful way. More importantly, the huge tournament database that they created gets to live on. It was always a great little brag for me to be able to point someone to my poker profile online. In the grand scheme of poker, I really haven't done crap, but to my buddies and people in my area, I am a poker god.
PokerPages was the first site I started going to on a regular basis in 2006. Their database is how I found out that certain players I was playing with actually were names I should know and others were just wannabe's like myself. It was a great source of information until the downturn in 2009 and hopefully it can be so again.
In an unrelated to poker note, Utah death row inmate Ronnie Lee Gardner has chosen to be put to death via firing squad. Only two states offer a firing squad as a execution method. While I know this is supposed to be a serious story, it makes me think of the old kids show "You Can't Do That on Television" and the firing squads that they had there. Since I couldn't find a clip of the YCDTOT sketch, I provide you with this Comedy Inc. sketch instead.
