Do You Smell What Online Poker is Cookin?
Do any of you still watch professional wrestling? I was thinking about how that online poker and wrestling have some similarities. Hear me out:
In pro wrestling, you have men and women that come out to perform in front of a crowd, and they think they are the next best thing since sliced bread. In reality, not many people outside of Wal-Mart probably know who they are. In online poker, you have players that think that they are God's gift to poker, and they must tell everyone they are playing against in the $1 sit and go just how great that they are.
In pro wrestling, you have a particular set of wrestlers that are at the top, also known as the "Main Eventers." These guys carry the company. In online poker, you have a select few players that more or less represent the online community and are a big draw whenever they play.
In pro wrestling, you have certain characters or gimmicks that you just look at and scratch your head. The Gobblety Gooker and Golddust are key examples. Online players such as "luckyvagina", "FatLazyMofo", and "lickmynutz" are some of the equivalents.
In pro wrestling, we have an evil "kingpin" type by the name of Mr. McMahon. In online poker, we have Russ Hamilton. Of course, in the case of McMahon, that is a character persona. He doesn't screw people out of money unless their name is Bret Hart.
Of course, you don't hear of many top poker player dying in their 40's and 50's like you do in pro wrestling. Also, online poker players don't have cool theme entrances. Personally, I would love to see someone enter the Main Event of the WSOP to Enter Sandman. (Including coming down through the crowd downing beers. You ECW fans know WTF I am talking about.)
