Monday, Mar 14, 2011 Negreanu Up Next for Isildur1 in SuperStar Showdown
After months of teasing and speculation, PokerStars has announced that Viktor "Isildur1" Blom's next opponent in the PokerStars Superstar Showdown will be poker icon Daniel Negreanu.
The two will square off in a two-day match to be held on March 20 and 27, with 2,500 hands to be played each day
The two have agreed to four-table $50/$100 No-Limit Hold'em for the duration of the event. Both will have $150,000 available to them to play with in the challenge.
This match has been rumored for some time and is considered a "Clash of the Titans" match between two of PokerStars' most popular pros.
Negreanu has been very vocal in his blog about both his admiration for the internet phenom and his desire to face him at the tables.
In preparation for the match, Negreanu has been four-tabling $5/$10 NL Hold'em against solid players at PokerStars. He's currently up around $13,000 for his practice sessions.
In regards to his practice sessions, Negreanu stated:
"It's all part of the learning process, and I'm a big believer in going all out against the fastest competition I can find, because then when I play others, the pace will seem comfortable.
"It's no different than a baseball player swinging five bats before he goes up to the plate, or a golfer taking some practice swings with a heavy club."
Isildur1's last SuperStar Showdown Challenge match was against internet qualifier DodgyFish72.
That match proved to be the closest out of the five challenge matches so far, with Blom finishing just $10 ahead of DodgyFish72.
