No-Limit Texas Hold'em : The New Player's Guide Review

No Limit Texas holdem is a book written on the " Cadillac" of poker and it's fine points, written by Brad Daughtery and Tom Mcevoy, who both have fine poker skills and have competed and won many big tournaments, Brad Daughtery won the World Series of Poker: Main Event, in the year 1991 and won a top prize of 1 million dollars. Not too bad is it....For the early 90's!
Pros
If you are an inexperienced No limit holdem player then this is definitely the book for you, the authors really help the shift from limit to no limit as well. By teaching what hands to play in No-Limit from each position on the table and how to play each big hand before, and after the flop. Which can really be helpful for a begginer, or a limit player, who is used to playing implied odds hands: such as connected suiters, small pairs, and A-x, K-x. In no-limit the authors definitely stress not to play these hands to a raise or in early position, because if you do then you could be committing all of your chips, unlike in limit. Another great part about this book, is that it has betting charts which are very helpful for tournaments, and they show what to do with the amount of chips you have related to what the antes and the blinds are. This is definitely helpful for beginner tournament players who have a hard time making the right bet.
Cons
If you are an experienced hold'em player who is looking for a new way to play the game or a different look this is most likely not the book for you. Most of the book goes through teaching the beginning players how to play, how to bet, and what hands to play in what positions. They never really getting in close in personal with the game. They teach you the basics but nothing that could help you really win a big tournament. What it says is to play only the big hands: AA,KK,QQ,AK and to be timid with anything else, in my opinion that is not the way to play poker. They never mention anything about picking spots, or making moves. Their is no way you can win a tournament without doing that. This book teaches the basics of the game, but the only thing it really tells you is to" play tight" untill you pick up a big hand. I don?t know if everyone wants that type of image at the table.
Conclusion
All in all this book is about a 6/10, I don?t recommend it for any body that has played more then 100 hours of NL Texas holdem. However, for anyone that is making the switch from Limit to No Limit this very well be the book for you. Whether you?re an experienced limit player or someone who?s never played poker this very well could be the book for you
