Caro's Book of Poker Tells Review
User Review: Caro's Book of Poker Tells - Submitted by Dozer
The poker tells by Mike Caro is a great introduction to learning how to effectively read your opponents to gain the upper hand, on betting, raising and folding. Have you ever wondered what your opponents thinking, or how to read the reactions that your opponents make then this book is a great learning tool for you.
Pros
Many descriptions and tells that are exposed in the book. Caro does a good job of providing most of the common and uncommon tells that are given away by body language. He categorizes them into types of tells, and organizes it clearly. He gives about 1/3 of a page description of the tell and why people execute or try to give off this tell i.e. the motivation behind the hand. Caro lists the reliability of the tells based upon how good your opponents are (weak, average, strong). Then he examines the average amount of money you will gain from a clever tell. He gives you a synopsis of how to effectively deal with the tell and what the best strategy available is to combat the tell. Caro gives picture examples to showcase what he means.
Cons
Caro doesn?t describe every possible tell (which would be hard), and doesn?t get into advanced poker tells, mostly beginner to average player types of tells. Its difficult sometimes to see the pictures and he doesn?t give you a great visual representation, the pictures are average. As well I think he generalizes tells, and doesn?t exactly pin-point specific tells. His methodology of how effective and reliable the tells are, are somewhat unreliable. I found some tells that he described difficult to decipher.
Conclusion
If you are new to the game of poker, and are trying to learn how to read people, (for the most part pretty well) then Caro?s Poker Tells is a good book. Its obviously for beginners who don?t know a lot about the psychology of the way people think and play their hands. Overall not to shabby.

the book only covers tells and doesnt do a good job?I am a beginner....but i dont want to waste my time (or money) on books that explain half of what they claim to. I will most likely play most of my poker online, so the book is not going to do me much good.

if you already know how to play starting hands this book will help you take ur game to the next level. Reading people is one of the most important aspects of poker and this helped me to begin to learn how to read people and i saw results almost immediately.

I have read this book and yes i found it quite helpful on general tells, basically i found that he reinforces that you have to find out what works and then exploit it, hit em where it hurts. Also he doesn't tell you everything but with the help of his book you should be able to take it from there and firgure out more tells for yourself. I would have to say it is a good investment to buy this book.

this book is absolutely wonderfull. it has opened my eyes so much too why people act the way they do when they bluff or when they have a good hand.mike caro does more than tell you why people act the way they do he gives you specific very clear examples with photos and detailed description. an absolutely must have if you wanna become a serious poker player.

I watched the DVD but didnt read the book. Its pretty basic but on the home game level it should help us all win some big pots & pretty good money over the long run.

I am pretty new to live poker, and I had no idea about how to read people until I read this book, it really improved my game. This book does have some issues though, but if you need an idea about how to read people buy this book!!
