Kathy Liebert Makes Poker History?
The poker junkie Kathy Liebert has the chance to become the first female WPT champion ever.
Sure, women have won Ladies Events (naturally), and Van Nguyen won the WPT Invitational in March this year, but now Kathy Liebert has the chance to claim the title in the North American Poker Championship, an open World Poker Tour event.
Liebert has reached the final table of the tournament and is in fifth place (of six) with $1,620,000 in chips. The field is rather evenly matched, however, so she has a good chance of going all the way.
With three previous WPT final table appearances, Liebert is one of the most experienced players left in the tournament. Former WPT champion Gavin Smith will probably be one of her toughest competitors.
Glen Witmer is the chip leader. These are the seating positions and chip counts for the final table:
Seat 1 Kathy Liebert $1,620,000
Seat 2 Gavin Smith $2,815,000
Seat 3 Marc Karam $1,850,000
Seat 4 Glen Witmer $3,710,000
Seat 5 James Trenholm $1,365,000
Seat 6 Ryan Fisler $2,285,000
