Monday, Apr 11, 2011 Isildur1 Wastes No Time in Round 2 vs. Palmer
Round 2 of the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown between Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Scott "urnotindangr" Palmer played out Sunday and Blom made it very clear who the namesake superstar is this time around.
After an initial 2,500 No-Limit Hold'em hands in Round 1 last week, Palmer actually held a slight $5,425 lead.
But Blom wasted no time asserting his dominance this week, jumping out to a $21,000 lead after just 120 hands and seemingly taking command of all four tables.
By the time the match reached 500 hands, Blom had already stretched his lead out to $50,000.
In the first 1,000 hands, Isildur1 took down seven out of nine all-in pots to take a nearly $70,000 lead, and there looked to be no stopping him.
He also ran well in the right spots. For example, in one hand Blom was dominated pre-flop with A-J versus the A-K of Palmer. The flop fell with a jack and Palmer decided to shove with his A-K. Blom made the call to take the nearly $20,000 pot.
Blom looked nearly invincible in this match and grew his lead to $95,500 with about 200 hands left to play before Palmer tried to stage a comeback.
Palmer called a pre-flop raise with K-Q and then flopped trip kings. Blom tried to bluff every street with J-9, eventually putting Palmer all-in. Palmer naturally called Blom down to win a 14,300 pot and close the gap to $60,000 with about 80 hands left.
That was about as close as the match would get however.
Blom would take down a $9,900 pot in the final few hands to move back up to a $75,000 lead. Palmer won eight out of the last nine hands, but Blom still finished the second round up $66,607.
After 5,000 hands, Isildur1 finished up $61,182 to win the match. The win moves Blom to 6-2 overall in the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown Challenge.
Blom's next opponent in the SuperStar Challenge is yet to be determined.
