Thursday, Feb 25, 2010 IOC to Accept Poker as Sport

According to unconfirmed sources, the International Olympic Committee will accept poker as a sport later this spring.

The story about IOC accepting poker as a sport goes like this: The newly founded International Poker Federation will become a member of the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) later this spring.

Anthony Holden, IPF chairman

And since IMSA is recognized as an authority by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), this would mean that the IOC automatically accepts poker as a sport.

If this comes true, it will certainly mean a breakthrough in the struggle to have poker accepted for what it is. No longer could poker be treated as a casino game.

The effects on poker legislation all around the world would be monumental. Imagine poker being played under the same conditions as bridge or chess. It's like a wet dream.

However, we haven't been able to confirm this. IOC and IMSA are real enough, but they don't have this news in their news listings.

The IPF doesn't even have a web site, and it's unknown to us if IPF chairman Anthony Holden has an email address.

Or a telephone. He's old school you know.
