Wednesday, Sep 3, 2008 Hurricane Gustav shuts down Gulf Coast Poker Championship
This Thursday the main event in the Gulf Coast Poker Championship was going to be held. But the hurricane Gustav has forced the casinos in Biloxi and Gulfport to temporarily close. The casinos were unharmed by the hurricane and plan to reopen shortly.
The $5,000 Championship no-limit holdem event was supposed to be played on Thursday the 4th of September. The event has been cancelled along with the other scheduled events. If and when the events will be rescheduled is not clear yet.
The president of Beau Rivage, the casino hosting the Gulf Coast Poker Championship, George P. Corchis, Jr, has stated that the casino managed to survive the storm without any serious damage. Officials are now assessing the situation to decide if the cancelled events should be rescheduled or not. We'll try to keep you posted.
