Wednesday, Jun 11, 2008 Gromenkova Wins WSOP Ladies Event
An impressive 1,200 players entered the $1,000 Ladies World Championship in this year's WSOP. After three days of betting battle, Svetlana Gromenkova from New York was the last woman standing and pocketed $224,000.
The $1,000 Ladies Championship Event in WSOP 2008 attracted about 100 entrants less than last year's Ladies Event, when Sally Anne Boyer brought home the bracelet and the first-prize money.
Defeating almost 1,200 opponents is no small feat, however, but New Yorker Svetlana Gromenkova had the required stamina. Except for the coveted bracelet, she took home $224,000.
This was Gromenkova's fourth WSOP money finish. She also has merits from the WPT, the United States Poker Championships and other live tournaments.
Second-place finisher Anh Le won a comforting $145,000. In WSOP 2005, Le finished second in the same Ladies Event after losing the headsup to Jennifer Tilly.
