Thursday, Feb 5, 2009 Daniel Negreanu disses Hellmuth "I think Phil will be outclassed"
Phil Hellmuth holds the record for most won WSOP bracelets, but according to Daniel Negreanu he want have a chance in the $40,000 no-limit holdem WSOP event scheduled for this summer.
In a recent interview at PokerListings.com Daniel Negreanu shares his thoughts about the upcoming 2009 World Series of Poker. He's really thrilled about the $40,000 no-limit holdem event that will be held this year, and this year only, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the WSOP. But he thinks the chances that Phil Hellmuth will win his twelfth bracelet in this particular event are slim, to say the least.
"The ratio of pros to amateurs or good players to bad will probably be about 7-1 or 6-2, so there's no way a player like Phil Hellmuth will win. It requires a completely different skill set than Hellmuth has, Negreanu said. "Playing against good players and all these great young players, his old-school thinking when it comes to winning tournaments just won't cut it. I think Phil will be outclassed."
Hopefully we'll find out this summer if Negreanu's prediction is correct. The man himself has hired a physical trainer to get in shape and aims to win several WSOP-bracelets this year. His main target is the $50,000 HORSE title.
