The World Series of Poker Begins Tomorrow!

WSOP 400x300
The World Series of Poker is just ONE DAY AWAY!  Players from all over are already beginning to descend upon Vegas and beginning their pre-WSOP preparations.   The poker media is in town having their pre-WSOP meetings and Harrah’s has been in meetings for the last couple of days in preparation. What have I been doing?  Playing video poker and watching Doctor Who mostly.   While that may not be the most exciting preparation for the WSOP, we have a long six weeks ahead of us.

Tzvetkoff Taking a Beating for Poker

24 May 2010 , By: Charlie River
Tzvetkoff
Australian internet tycoon Daniel Tzvetkoff has decided to plead not guilty of having transmitted funds to illegal online gamling. He’s taking the position that poker is not gambling, a truth that I’ve claimed in a previous blog post[[sitetree_link,id=904]]. While other gambling CEOs have chosen to bargain their way out of messy legal situations, Tzvetkoff’s decision to call down the DOJs aggressive play will force them to show their cards. Tzvetkoff is playing a high stakes game, to say the least.

Godzilla 250x300
I have some bad news to report. Unfortunately, the “Poker Junkie Monkey” will not be making its way to the 2010 World Series of Poker. For some reason, I was unable to locate the monkey before coming out here. As such, I now have a new mascot for the 2010 WSOP.

Poker2Nite Cancelled

Poker2Nite
It appears the Poker2Nite is no more, or at least according to the twitter’s of Joe Sebok and Scott Huff. Poker2Nite was a poker news program that started on Fox Sports Net and then moved to Versus for season 2. The program was cancelled due to sponsors not renewing according to a twitter from Huff. I wish I could say that this was shocking.

Daniel Negreanu in his recent blog talked a bit about things that are in the “best interest of poker. ” He goes over several things that he said are in the best interest of poker. The first was the continued elimination of WSOP rebuy events. He says that the events skew history and give guys like him the advantage of being able to get deep in the events.

You have probably been waiting for the follow-up on my revolutionary study aimed at shedding light on the mysteries surrounding poker’s early days. Today I proudly present to you the second part in this very long, multi-part essay. Part I of The Origins of Poker[[sitetree_link,id=1645]] left off after the sacking of Babylon. A tribe of traveling hippies on a pilgrimage to central Asia in honor of Ma Gu, the goddess of Hemp, saved the knowledge of Poker from being lost forever.
