2010 WSOP Trip - Day 3 - Devouring Helmuth

Hellmuth
Day 3 of my trip was bluntly pretty dull.   Started the day in Oklahoma and drove to Texas.   Basically, Texas is pretty much open country outside of the city.   Fields for as far as the eye can see pretty much sums it pretty well.

My cross country excursion to the 2010 World Series of Poker has begun. Headed out earlier in the evening and had to actually take a bit of a different route than normal. Due to the flooding in Tennessee, I cannot use 40 through the state so I ended up going I81 to I64. I’ll do some maneuvering to get back on I40 by Wednesday latest.

In the last month I have had the opportunity to play a lot of poker.   I have played in cash games and tournaments.   But I have seen a trend, at least in my outcomes.   I have been killing it in the single table tourneys and doing not so well in the MTT.

OFFICIAL: “Poker is indeed a mind-sport”

30 April 2010 , By: Charlie River
We've reported on this before, both in the news section and in a blog. But at the time it was more of a desperate hope than an actual fact. *Now it's a fact. * The International Mind Sport Association has officially recognized poker as a mind sport alongside other mind sports such as chess and bridge.

Virginia Congressmen Lobby Against Legalizing Online Gambling

Goodlatte
Looks like a couple of my congressmen want to start shit.   Bob Goodlatte and Rick Boucher, both delegates from Virginia have been circulating a letter around congress urging members to reject any attempts to repeal the UIGEA and vote against any bills that legalize online gaming.   (Yes, I live in Virginia. ) One of their points is that online gambling will bring all the trappings of a brick and mortar casino into homes and college dorms across the country.

A moment in time

Sitting at the table you check your hole cards, in an instant they are burned into your mind.   Check, call, raise, fold.   All possibilities navigate through your head.   Subconsciously you feel out your opponents.

I have always said that if you want to feel like a young man at almost any age, go play in a stud game. I was playing in a $3 - $6 Stud 8 or Better game in Los Angeles in December 2008 when this older Asian gentleman sat down with his wife kind of hovering around behind him. He very slowly took out his money and bought into the game. Most of the people at the table knew who he was and called him "papa.
