About 15 years ago, my dad was applying for a veteran's pension. He was of the mindset that he would not get it. When asked about it, he used to say "I'll believe it when I get it. " Then, about 8 months later, he got the letter saying he was accepted.

Seidel Kessler 430x286
The WPT Hollywood Poker Open was destined to be a nearly forgotten stop on the WPT this year. The event only drew 97 players and early on the talk was about how poorly this event drew. That's all changed now that Erik Seidel has made the final table. As anyone not living under that rock in the Geico commercial knows, Seidel has won over $4 million this year including the NBC National Heads-Up Championship.

The Swedish Supreme Court Got it Right About Poker

Poker Law 430x231
The Swedish Supreme Court recently ruled that poker is BOTH a game of skill and luck, basing its decision dependent on the type of poker being played. The court ruled that tournaments are skill games and that cash games are more random chance because players can come and go as they please and bet whatever they wish. Finally, someone gets it right. Let me clarify that I do not view cash games as random chance or poker tournaments as skill games only.

Erik Seidel and Full Tilt Pros Accused of Collusion

Moneymaker Seidel 206x300
Erik Seidel has had an epic 2011. Since the beginning of the year, he has taken down two major high-roller events and the NBC National Heads-Up Championship to take over the all-time money list lead. However, there are now allegations arising that are beginning to cast doubt as to whether these wins were indeed legitimate. It all started with a post on the TwoPlusTwo forums a couple of weeks ago when poster "CrownWatchdog186" posted that the fix was in for both the $100,000 Challenge match and the $250,000 buy-in Super High Roller event.

Brunson 168x300
The lucky #13 spot on the 20 Most Influential People in Poker list goes to the one player that truly transcends the game. Like Mohammad Ali in boxing, Jack Nicklaus in golf, Babe Ruth in baseball, Joe Namath in football or Michael Jordan in basketball, this player is probably one of the most recognizable poker players of all time. That's right, #13 is Doyle Brunson. Known as "The Godfather of Poker," Brunson is usually the first name that comes to mind when the term "poker greatness" is spoken.

Would You Give These People Money?

Ninja Beggar
Kathy Liebert and I have been tweeting back and forth on twitter recently about something that is a part of life in many large cities, and has even spread to some smaller communities. You go into a gas station or are at a local shopping center and someone comes up to you telling you that they are having hard times and are wondering if you could spare them some spare change or a dollar. The question we discussed was whether you would actually give them money or not. Personally, it depends on the situation and how it goes down.
