Starting today, we will host a feature here at Poker Junkie that I'm dubbing "Flashback Friday. " Each week we will take a look back at a major poker confrontation, hopefully with a tie in to recent poker news. In this inaugural installment we take a look back at the 1999 United States Poker Championship Main Event. The Trump Taj Mahal poker room shut down this past Sunday for renovations but for many years the room was host to the USPC.

Schwartz Antics Pale Compared to the Late John Bonetti

John Bonetti
I just got done reading about the controversy last week during the final table of a $1,100 event at the Foxwoods Poker Classic. Justin "Stealthmunk" Schwartz was disqualified after various antics at the final table that included "verbal abuse" of players and a questionable "all-in" situation. You can read more about it at 2+2 forums. Reading over this blog, it reminded me of the last tournament that I played with the late, great John Bonetti.

John Bonetti 430x285
For a few weeks now, I have been pondering poker and morality. While some believe that the two are mutually exclusive of each other, it has become quite evident what crimes are unforgivable. *Abuse Can Be Overlooked* Some of you may remember my memories of John Bonetti and how I have said in the past he has reminded me of my grandfather. A few bits of poker humor to kick off your week from my past travels: A young kid sits down to a $65 satellite in Tunica, MS and proceeds to tell everyone at our end of the table how he grew up playing poker in cash games with Amarillo Slim. He then proceeds to bust out 2nd in the satellites and the people at the table say: "He sure was full of himself. Who is Amarillo Slim? Isn't that a brand of cigarette?" In a Omaha Hi-Lo tournament at the Bike in L. A.

New WSOP Rule Should Help Reduce Dealer Abuse

A big change in the rules at the World Series of Poker this year involved instituting a Player Code of Conduct. Now, a player can be penalized not only for abuse to other players, but also to dealers and floor staff. I think this is a fantastic policy that has been instituted. One thing that really irritates me is how that some players will treat dealers like dirt.
